Socially Responsible Operators and Non-State Education Provision in Africa

26 02 18

Against a backdrop of rapid growth in the number of private schools in Africa in recent years, PEAS often has been asked to provide our view on the opportunities and risks in the sector, and what about our approach has allowed us to partner effectively with governments in delivering national education goals.

In response, we are pleased to share our first organisational working paper on 'Socially Responsible Operators & Non-State Education Provision in Africa'. The paper argues for a greater focus on operator behaviours rather than types in identifying strong partners, and proposes a list of of common, ‘socially responsible’ behaviours that demonstrate a commitment to global education objectives for providing a quality education to all children.

We welcome comment on the ideas presented in this working paper, which do not represent organisational policy but rather our evolving thinking. We hope it can provide a helpful perspective and encourage constructive dialogue.
