This International Day of Girls and Women in Science, PEAS is celebrating the importance of a secondary education in giving a girl the confidence and skills she needs to choose her post-secondary pathway.
As an alumna of a PEAS school in Zambia, Peace proudly embodies the transformative potential of a secondary education. With support from her teachers and a wide offering of extra-curricular activities, she was able to pursue science at school and later train to become a nurse. She’s proud that a PEAS secondary education enabled her to fulfil her dream.
“Before joining a PEAS school, I had lost hope of completing my secondary school education as my parents did not have money to pay my tuition at the school I was attending. However, my uncle came home one day and told us about a new school that was of good quality education and much more affordable. Compared to the school I was attending before; most parents are able to afford the school fees at PEAS schools.”
“I have always wanted to be in the medical field, and thanks to PEAS’ academic support and extra-curricular science clubs I was then able to become a nurse and follow my dream. I love being a nurse because I serve many people and save lives. I want to help other people as PEAS helped me too.”
“The school’s advocacy for gender equality means that girls in these remote rural areas have an opportunity to be educated. When a girl is educated, they will also push for education in their families and for their communities.”
