Often aid is focused on the short-term - sticking plasters to make things better. Sooner or later the money runs out and the underlying problem is still there.
We focus on solving the problem – trying to cure the disease, tackling the root cause to make our changes sustainable.
This is why sustainability has been a core design principle of PEAS from the beginning.
Whilst we fundraise for the costs of building schools, once school have launched, their running costs are covered through partnerships with the government and the lowest possible fees we can charge. Our goal is to have zero day fees.
PEAS works in close partnership with the Ugandan and Zambian governments, where we receive a grant for each student educated in our schools. This means after securing an initial contribution to enable PEAS to build a school, it then is operated completely independently of philanthropic funding - creating decades worth of secondary education.
