The top performing school network, where over half of students recorded Division 1-3 grades in the recent UCE exams, has expanded across Uganda, now running 28 secondary schools and educating almost 14,000 students.

Students attending PEAS schools achieved more top grades than the national average and three schools that had candidates for the first time, after opening their doors in 2014, all recorded 100% pass rate. Of the newest schools, top performing was Toroma, in Eastern Uganda, where nine in every 10 students achieved Division 1- grades.

The new schools opening their doors for the first time this term are Noble High School in Rukiri, Aspire High School in Kashangura, Frontier High School in Isingiro and Samling Nama High School in the district of Mpigi.

Country Director for PEAS Uganda Francis Shanty expects the new schools to continue to achieve high results.

“In the most recent UCE results, our three newest schools all recorded 100% pass rates with Toroma High School with 91% of students achieving fantastic Divisions 1-3 grades.

It shows two things: that our teaching approach is resulting in the top grades and that our new schools are achieving the high standards we expect.

“We’re extremely excited to welcome students to our four new schools across the country. It shows PEAS’ commitment to continue increasing access to secondary education and, with our continual improvement, parents know our teaching standards are the best for their children.”

PEAS built their first secondary school in 2008 and in the following eight years have grown to a network of 28 in Uganda, educating around 14,000 young people.

PEAS Founder and Chief Executive John Rendel said: “We’re all incredibly excited about opening the four new schools this term. The schools we opened in 2014 have just recorded some fantastic results and we hope this proves an inspiration to the students starting secondary education at any one of our 28 schools this year.”
