Dear friends of PEAS,

As PEAS’s Chair and Founder, it is our great pleasure to announce that after a thorough search and selection process, the Board of Trustees has agreed to appoint Laura Brown as our new CEO.

Laura is one of PEAS’s longest serving team members and has played a critical role in the recent success of the organisation. Having launched our programme in Zambia, led the development of our technical team and played an increasingly important role with our strategic partnerships and overall strategy, Laura has consistently shown her ability to step up to whatever new challenge is thrown at her. We’re certain she will do so again as she takes on the CEO role.

Perhaps most importantly, Laura has been fiercely loyal to the organisation, to her teams and to generating the maximum impact for our students. Her commitment to putting the organisation, its funders and its beneficiaries first is an attribute which I know will inspire the team and all our supporters as we continue to work to get every child into a great school. Laura is currently on maternity leave and so her first official day in role will be June 1st 2018.

John will be stepping into a consulting and non-executive career across international education and commercial start-ups. And as Founder, he’s looking forward to remaining a close and active supporter of PEAS.

PEAS is Africa’s leading low-cost secondary school network. Our ambition now, is to have ever growing, systemic impact by helping to support the launch and management of thousands of new schools across Africa. Laura will be looking forward to sharing more on this exciting new branch of our approach in the coming months.

Laura will be taking on an organisation with strong and strengthening finances, an excellent team, and a board with the wide ranging experience to ensure PEAS’s future is bright. With your support, Laura is looking forward to turning those assets into fundamental change in the lives of many thousands of young people.

We know that you, like us, believe that compassion should extend beyond our families, communities, cities and beyond our countries. And we believe that the lives of all children matter. So the battle to get every child into a great secondary school is one in which we all fight together.

Yours with continuing thanks

Catherine Brien, Chair of Trustees and John Rendel, Founder and outgoing CEO
