Hibiscus High School is in Kibatsi sub county, Ntungamo District. This is one of the two schools funded by the Costa Foundation this year, which aims to look after coffee growers and help provide children access to education. Ntungamo is a major coffee growing area in Uganda and lies in the south west of the country.
The district has 364 primary schools, and alarmingly, one fifth of those children are orphans. While 90% of children in Ntungamo go to primary school, just 7.6% of eligible children (who have passed their primary leavers exam) continue to secondary school because of a lack of provision. There was a clear and desperate need for an affordable secondary school in this area and the school opened with over 300 students on 28 February 2011.
