Onwards and Upwards Secondary School really is living up to its name. It is showing fantastic progress. Opened on 6th February, 2008 by the Ugandan Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, it is hugely over-subscribed and will need another four-classroom block before February 2011. Students John, Edith, Anthony and Ruth tell of some of their experiences in the school on the our students page.
The school is situated to the west of the Ugandan capital, Kampala, in the district of Wakiso, serving the town of Buloba and the surrounding community. The school was the first PEAS school to achieve the difficult award of UNEB centre meaning it is licensed to hold state examina
tions from the school.
The name Onwards and Upwards references the philosophy and motto of the late Richard Feilden who died in January 2005. The UK architectural firm, Feilden Clegg Bradley (FCB) supported PEAS with the design of the school.
Onwards and Upwards has a successful Income Generating Activity where student learn how to make Interlocking Stablised Soil Bricks, which are much cheaper and more environmentally friendly than traditional fired bricks. Find out how some O&U students spent their holidays learning how to make the bricks, which were then used to build a new block at the school.
Onwards and Upwards was mainly funded by a generous personal donation from the Stephenson family. If you want to help build the extra classrooms that the school desperately needs, please donate today or contact us.
