Got Matar Secondary School - a new school in Kenya

PEAS is currently working in partnership with the Got Matar Development Group on a new secondary school project in the Bondo District of Western Kenya.

PEAS is sharing its experience in school construction and management in Uganda with the Group, as well as administering funds on its behalf. The school opened its doors to the first students in February 2007.

Bondo is ranked amongst the poorest districts in Kenya and suffers from the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS in the country.

Until now, most local children who are qualified for secondary school have been unable to continue their education.

The new school will eventually grow to support 600 local children.

Some of the first 150 students to enrol at Got Matar get down to work in their new classroom.

In a similar fashion to other PEAS projects construction of the school will be phased over 4 years to match the build-up in the number of students, a progressive growth in the number of teachers and the need to provide boarding facilities for children from far-away parts of the District.

PEAS will continue to support the school's management team during the ongoing growth and development of the school.
