Onwards & Upwards Secondary School

A new secondary school for 2008 in Buloba, Wakiso District, Uganda

On 6th February, 2008, Onwards & Upwards Secondary School was officially opened by the Ugandan Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development. The school is situated  to the west of the Ugandan capital, Kampala, in the district of Wakiso, serving the town of Buloba and the surrounding community.

By the end of the first term, over 200 students had enrolled at the school - and it will grow to support a student population of over 1000. The school also employs 20 local people as teachers or support staff.

The school is led by  local Director of Finance and Development, Ibbie Ssebagala, and a Director of Education, Michael Nkayi.

The name Onwards and Upwards references the philosophy and motto of the late Richard Feilden who died in January 2005. The UK architectural firm, Fielden Clegg Bradley (FCB) is supporting PEAS with the design of the school.

This school has been mainly funded by a generous personal donation from the Stephenson family.
